Individual Therapy That Actually Fits Your Life

Life gets complicated. Whether you're white-knuckling your way through anxiety, trying to function with ADHD, grieving something you're not sure you're even allowed to call a loss, or just feeling like you've been running on empty for way too long, you don't have to keep figuring it out alone.
At Calibrations Counseling and Consultation, individual counseling is a space that's genuinely yours. No agenda, no one-size-fits-all approach. Just you, a therapist who gets it, and the room to actually work through what's going on.
Calibrations Counseling & Consultation is a licensed telehealth therapy practice serving clients throughout Ohio. Based in the Akron and Barberton area, we offer individual counseling for adults dealing with anxiety, ADHD, autism spectrum concerns, depression, life transitions, grief, and more. Our licensed Ohio therapists specialize in neurodivergent-affirming and LGBTQIA+-affirming care and use evidence-based approaches including Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Solution-Focused Therapy. We accept most major commercial insurances including Aetna, Cigna, United Healthcare, Medical Mutual of Ohio, and Anthem Blue Cross/Blue Shield, and we serve clients across the greater Summit County area, Cleveland, Columbus, and throughout the state.
What Individual Counseling Looks Like Here
We're an Ohio telehealth practice, which means you can access individual therapy from wherever you're most comfortable. Your couch, your car, your home office with the door locked. Grab your coffee or your tea, your favorite blanket, whatever helps you settle in. Sessions here are low-pressure by design.
Your therapist will work with you to figure out what's actually driving what you're experiencing, not just hand you a list of coping skills and send you on your way. We use evidence-based approaches, and we tailor the work to what makes sense for you and your goals.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a skills-based approach that helps with emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and building healthier relationship patterns. It's especially useful for people who feel emotions intensely or who find themselves stuck in cycles they can't seem to break.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) focuses on identifying and shifting thought patterns that contribute to anxiety, depression, or avoidance. It's practical and structured, and it tends to work well for people who like to understand the "why" behind what they're experiencing.
Solution-Focused Therapy centers on what's already working and where you want to go, rather than digging through the past indefinitely. It's a good fit for people who have clear goals and want to move forward.
We're also neurodivergent-affirming. If you have ADHD, are autistic, or suspect you might be, you'll find a team here that understands how that shapes your experience and meets you accordingly. We're proud to be LGBTQIA+-affirming as well. And yes, we have a therapist who offers Geek Therapy, because healing doesn't have to look like sitting stiffly across from someone in a blazer.

Frequently Asked Questions About Individual Therapy at Calibrations
Do I need a diagnosis to start individual therapy?
No. You don't need a formal diagnosis to benefit from therapy. Many clients come to us without one and simply know something isn't working. If assessment is something you're curious about down the road, we offer psychodiagnostic evaluations for ADHD and autism, but it's never a requirement to start individual counseling.
Do you offer therapy for neurodivergent adults?
Yes. Calibrations specializes in neurodivergent-affirming care. Whether you have a formal ADHD or autism diagnosis, are in the process of being evaluated, or just suspect you might be neurodivergent, you'll find a team that understands how that shapes your experience at work, in relationships, and in daily life.
Is individual therapy at Calibrations covered by insurance?
We accept most major commercial insurances, including Medical Mutual of Ohio, United Healthcare, Optum, UMR, OSCAR, Anthem Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Cigna, and Aetna. Self-pay rates are $170 for an initial assessment and $150 per individual session. If you're unsure about your coverage, contact us before scheduling and we'll sort it out together.
Do you offer LGBTQIA+-affirming therapy?
Yes. All therapists at Calibrations provide LGBTQIA+-affirming care as a baseline, not an add-on. We also have a dedicated LGBTQIA+ Affirming Therapy page with more information about our approach.
Where are you located? Do you offer in-person sessions?
Calibrations offers both telehealth and in-person therapy. Most sessions are conducted virtually, making care accessible anywhere in Ohio, but we also have limited in-person availability at our Barberton office. We serve clients throughout Summit County and across the state, including the Cleveland, Cincinnati, and Columbus areas.
What therapy approaches do you use?
Our therapists use evidence-based approaches including Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Solution-Focused Therapy, and tailor the work to each client's goals and needs. Some therapists also offer Geek Therapy, which integrates interests like tabletop games, storytelling, and fandom into the therapeutic process.
How do I get started with individual therapy in Ohio?
