Hello! Andrew here, thank you so much for clicking and finding out a little more about us.
You are probably wondering why I would put this picture in our introduction blog post. Well the truth is in the title, this is us! People have this image that all counselors dress super professionally and are super serious all the time when in fact that is rarely the case, especially for us. We value being more laid back because that gives us a better opportunity to meet our clients where they are at in their mental health journey so we can better walk with them. Now of course there is a time and place for everything. You will never sign onto a session with us and see a clown act or a comedy performance. What you will find are clinicians that battle the ups and downs of life just like anyone else. The only difference with us is we did a few years of post graduate work so we can assist others in that process.
Getting to know us:
Emily and I met when we were both attending the University of Akron for our Masters degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. One day we were working on a project for a class, I turned to Emily and asked, "Wouldn't it be cool if one day we opened up a private practice together?" And just like that, the seed was planted for what would become Calibrations Counseling & Consultation. This was months into us dating so neither of us knew what the future would hold but lucky for us, this became a reality. Instead of being super long winded with my writing, here are some other fun facts about us:
Favorite Movie(s): Emily (EL) - Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Andrew (AL) - Original Star Wars Trilogy (Yes I know that's cheating but they are one awesome movie to me!)
Favorite TV shows: EL - Buffy the Vampire Slayer. AL - How I Met Your Mother, Big Bang Theory, Friends, Game of Thrones, Firefly.
Favorite Video game(s): For both of us, our favorite video game trilogy is Mass Effect. Fun fact, that game has a big influence on our name, can you guess it?
Emily donated her kidney to me after I was diagnosed with end stage renal disease and on dialysis for a year (Insert explosion sound cause we just blew your mind! More stories on this to come so stay tuned!)
We are both involved in the Northeast Ohio chapter of the National Kidney Foundation.
We have 3 dogs (Captain, Lady and Molly) and a cat (C4). We are both huge animal lovers! No worries, you will see PLENTY of pictures on our social media accounts.
Emily's go to positive coping skills: Building miniature model houses, painting mini's, mindfullness breathing, yoga, video games, talking with trusted friends and family, playing with our pups, and reading.
Andrew's go to positive coping skills: Video games, going for a walk/hike with the pups, writing, watching some classic re-runs, deep breath exercises, playing with our pups/cat.
Enough about us, we want to know more you YOU. Contact us today and schedule a session!
